The Hired Man - 2000

2000 - The Hired Man

Wexford Light Opera Society's millennium show will be "The Hired Man," and the musical drama will certainly provide a big challenge for the talented WLOS members.

Anybody who attended Hits from the Musicals will be familiar with one of the chorus numbers, "The Song of the Hired Man" and director John Donnelly is even more acquainted with the show, having won an AIMS Best Actor award for his part in the D.A.Y.M.S. production some years back.

Auditions will be held in early January and audition pieces will be available over the next week.

The Hired Man - 2000 P.R.O. Nicky Kehoe says that in the same year that Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Starlight Express" pushed technical wizardy to new limits, he also produced "The Hired Man", a show which got away from the high-tech glitz and presented a vivid and moving account of the lives of ordinary working people in the north of England.

The show opens with newly married John Tallentirebeing "hired on" by local land owner Mrs. Pennington and follows their lives through the turbulent years to the turn of the century, to the "war to end all wars" and beyond.

As always, the Theatre Royal will be the venue for the production which will run from April 29 to May 6.
